The Eldorado Ballroom is a historic cultural venue located in Houston’s Third Ward, directly across from Emancipation Park. Established in 1939 by Anna and Clarence Dupree, it became a cornerstone of Black social life during the era of segregation. The ballroom hosted legendary performers in jazz, blues, and R&B, serving as a vital gathering place for the community. Known as the “Home of Happy Feet,” it welcomed artists such as Ray Charles, Etta James, and B.B. King, all of whom contributed to shaping Houston’s rich musical legacy.

Today, the Eldorado Ballroom is managed by Project Row Houses (PRH), an arts and community organization based in the Third Ward. PRH is dedicated to preserving African American history and culture while supporting local residents. After a significant restoration, the ballroom has been revitalized as a multidisciplinary arts and performance space that connects the neighborhood’s rich history with its present. It now hosts concerts, exhibitions, community programs, and public events. This revival embodies PRH’s broader mission to maintain Third Ward as a vibrant cultural district rooted in creativity, empowerment, and collective memory.
